R-Values should not be
used for comparison of Hollow Walls to Mass Walls
********
The method of
determining ‘Wall Assembly R-Value” by adding the R-Values together gives
incorrect results for energy savings when used to determine the expected energy
use of MASS walls (such as the All Wall System.)
Example of error, as defined by ORNL research papers.
When compared to a 6” R-20 framed
Wood Wall a Foam Block (ICF) wall performed with a 9% better Energy Savings.
A wall built like All Wall
performed with an 18% better Energy Savings.
(9% over the Foam Block walls) because of the concrete
being in direct contact with the interior.

R-Values from world available
website www.ColoradoEnergy.org and
claimed to be the “original work” of Randy L. Martin.
Randy wrote: I am writing because I discovered that you copied my R-Value table from ColoradoEnergy.org and posted it on your web site without permission and added your own notes to it.
To qualify for Randy, I have not ADDED any notes to it, I made notes/comments about the validity of it when comparing Hollow Wall construction to Mass Wall construction.
This R-Value table was not prepared by this company.
All R-Values on this table are common knowledge and can be gathered from public engineering and air conditioning books.
Use the R-value table below to help
you determine the R-value of your wall or ceiling assemblies. To obtain a wall
or ceiling assembly R-value you must add the r-values of the individual
components together.
